City channel or influencer: which suits your business?
A city channel is the right fit if you want to reach people who are looking for recommendations for a particular place; an influencer is the right fit if the relationship with a person or their topic is decisive for your offer. So compare the interests of the community, the local connection and the proven results of individual posts, rather than just setting follower numbers side by side.

Why people follow the channel
Anyone who follows a person is interested in their perspective, their everyday life or their area of expertise. A recommendation can be convincing precisely because of this relationship. That is relevant, for example, when someone regularly uses a product that needs explaining or speaks to a clearly defined interest group. Whether such a collaboration fits depends on the person, the content and the audience. The term influencer on its own says little about that.
With a city channel, the shared point of reference is the place. People are looking for restaurants, experiences, shops or other offers in their area. A feature on a business can answer exactly that search. The post therefore needs a concrete benefit for the city community: what can you do there, who is it interesting for and how do you get there? The person in front of the camera supports this discovery.
This approach shapes our Instagram marketing. How Viral House works is described under About us. The difference is a question of what people expect when they open the channel, not a blanket statement that one way of publishing always works better.
Follower count is not a limit on reach
A reel can reach people who don't follow the account that publishes it. The number of followers is therefore neither a fixed cap nor a guaranteed number of viewers. This applies to city channels and to influencers. Even a large community doesn't mean that every post reaches every member. A smaller account can get beyond its existing circle with the right video.
Meta describes the fact that Instagram can show posts to non-followers, for example with trial reels for new audiences. That is no guarantee for any particular post. What matters for your choice is which content is actually published and which responses to it are documented. General questions about your own channel are covered in more depth in the guide Building Instagram reach.
At Viral House, a single production has achieved more than 18 million views. That shows how far a single post can spread. These are views, not 18 million proven different people, and not an average or a promise for the next job. A serious assessment keeps these differences visible.
Which numbers you should ask to see
Ask for several comparable posts from the channel in question, not only the most successful film. Ask about the publication date, topic, evaluation period and the share of paid distribution, where this information is available. Compare like with like: views with views, accounts reached with accounts reached. Repeat plays can be counted in views; no number of people may be derived from them.
We have more than six million followers across the channels and platforms counted towards our public presence. This total also includes Hamburg. It says nothing about how many people see a single post. The media kit helps you choose your city; you can find concrete published work under References.
Hamburg belongs to our sister company Hashtag Hamburg. We pass enquiries for Hamburg on to them. For other places, you can refer to the pages on Berlin and Munich, for example. Also check whether your catchment area matches the community in question, instead of reading the combined size of all city channels as a local audience figure.
When a city channel is the obvious choice
A local recommendation needs a reason that makes sense to other people. A restaurant shows a dish for sharing. A shop demonstrates what you can try out there. An event explains what visitors will experience. These topics fit an environment that regularly publishes discoveries from the same city. The value lies in the connection between content and place.
For food and drink businesses, our guide Instagram marketing for restaurants describes this path all the way to the reservation. In retail, a demonstration can give people a reason to visit the shop; in leisure and events, a concrete experience can do the same. For hotels and tourism offers, where potential guests come from can also play a role.
These examples do not limit this to certain industries. You can almost always find suitable content if the offer, the occasion and the audience are clear. The industry overview shows the range. A city channel is less suitable, however, if your offer has no relevant connection at all to the local community.
When a person creates the better connection
An influencer can make sense if their area of expertise or their personal use is essential to the decision. A business with a very specialised product may need people who deal intensively with exactly that topic. A city community with broad interests would then be less suitable than a smaller audience with more specific expertise. What matters is the match, not the biggest number on the profile.
Also check the style of presentation: does the tone suit the brand? Do previous collaborations come across as credible? Can the person explain the offer convincingly? A person rooted in a particular place can also speak to the same city as a city channel. The two approaches are not mutually exclusive. The differences then show in the format, in the viewers' interests and in how the material is used later.
If your main aim is to look after your own presence regularly, you are asking a different question. For that, management of your business account is the right starting point. A single post on someone else's channel replaces neither up-to-date profile information nor the handling of enquiries.
What you are actually commissioning in a collaboration
Separate the tasks in writing: who develops the topic, who films, who edits and where is it published? One offer may include only the publication, another the complete production. With content production, the footage and the finished posts are created; with paid social, ad management and a separate evaluation are added. Both should be clearly recognisable in the agreed scope.
Also agree which versions you will receive, which corrections are included and what you can later use the finished videos for. Clarify approval and the publication date before filming takes place. If further platforms are planned, their implementation must be explicitly included, for example with TikTok marketing. Having an Instagram film does not automatically mean that every further use has been agreed.
For a special occasion, social media PR can be a good fit. The services page gives an overview of the building blocks we deliver. Which factors influence the effort is explained in the cost guide; the publishing route alone does not determine it.
Buying reach and judging results
Anyone searching for “buy reach” can mean very different things: a booked post, paid ads or artificially inflated metrics. A paid service should have a clear scope and evaluations you can follow. Bought followers or view packages that cannot be traced don't help you understand whether the right people have seen your offer.
So decide in advance how you will judge the collaboration. For a restaurant, reservation requests can be relevant; for a shop, questions about availability. A post can create attention without triggering this next action. In that case, also check the offer, the location information and the landing page. If you only judge the post, you may overlook an obstacle in your own booking process.
Viral House carries out productions and publications. If a city channel suits your occasion, we clarify the channel, content and execution in the specific job. You can take the next step via Book a call. A sound choice starts with the right audience and a scope of service you can understand.
